Over the years, Wiimmfi added more and more games to its servers, including classics such as Super Smash Bros. Wiimmfi was originally focused solely on Mario Kart Wii, which continues to be the most popular game played on Wiimmfi by far, featuring hundreds of players at any given time of the day. Because of the work Wiimm had done in the years prior, he was able to get the Wiimmfi Project up and ready before the Nintendo servers shut off on May 20th, 2014. The Wiimmfi Project (often just called “Wiimmfi” for short) is a fanmade server that launched on May 10th, 2014 by a Mario Kart Wii player called “Wiimm.” Even before Nintendo announced that the servers would be shut down, Wiimm had been putting in research to gather data on how these games worked on servers in case the official Nintendo servers were closed, as has happened with various Xbox and PS2 games in the past.
Wiimmfi allows players to enjoy those classic Wii games with online play.
